You know how people say first impressions matter? Well, that goes double for your Instagram bio. It’s like your brand’s opening line, and you want to get it right. If you’re running a small business, your bio can be the difference between someone just scrolling by or actually checking out your products. So, let’s dive into how you can make your bio work harder for you.
Why Your Instagram Bio Is a Big Deal
Your Instagram bio is basically your elevator pitch. You’ve got about two seconds to grab someone’s attention. When potential customers land on your profile, they’ll decide quickly if they want to stick around or move on. That’s why having a killer bio is so important. It’s like having a mini-salesperson on duty 24/7.
What Makes a Good Instagram Bio?
Before we get into the nitty-gritty and I show you 10 of my favorite examples below, let’s break down what you actually need in a solid Instagram bio:
- Profile Picture
- Username and Name Field
- Bio Text
- Link in Bio
- Call-to-action (CTA)
Profile Picture
This should be something people can easily recognize like your logo or face. The only thing to keep in mind is your profile picture does appear extremely small besides posts and in comments so make sure it is legible at smaller sizes. Get creative, add some colors, and make sure to smile if you’re using your face!
Username & Name Field
There isn’t much you can do about your username but your name field is super important. A lot of business owners make this the exact same as their username just adding spaces and this is where they lose out on so many sales.
The name field is searchable and this is what helps you get discovered when people type in your products or services on the search bar. So make sure you include your business name for branding purposes and a keyword or phrase about what you do and where you do it. Instagram is technically a search engine so stuff in some keywords like you would for Google and SEO. This also helps establish clearly what you have to offer to someone visiting your page for the first time.
Bio Text
This is your chance to tell people what your business is about in just a few words. You’ve got 150 characters, so make them count. Don’t forget to include a call-to-action so people know what to do next. Don’t worry I know this section is probably why you clicked this article, but we will go over some examples below.
Link in Bio
For most this is where your sales are going to occur. Instagram used to limit you to one link but they now allow you to have several. I would still only use one link to keep your profile looking clean and send them to your homepage, LinkTree, or StanStore.
Call-to-Action
This technically applies to your bio text, but make sure to include one clear call to action as the last line in your bio text to tell your visitors exactly what you want them to do - boosting your sales. Something like “Shop Now”, “Learn More”, “Get a Free Quote” work great.
